Our first annual Bowling event was held with all proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle. The committee chose to honor Alex Kemnitzer who was tragically killed in a car accident in February 2015. It was decided to change our event name to The Alex Kemnitzer Memorial Bowling Event. Alex served on the board of directors for Habitat EP for more than five years, and four of them in the capacity of board secretary. Ironically, he had been at a board meeting on the afternoon of the car accident that later took his life. In addition to taking notes on the various discussions, he also provided valuable insights on some of the topics. Alex was often able to do that since he had been active with Habitat EP for so many years. In addition to being a Habitat for Humanity board member, Alex attended the many events held to celebrate construction of new homes in the Eastern Panhandle and served on the organization’s ReStore Committee, which addresses issues and needs of the discount home improvement center that sells donated items at reduced prices to the general public. He was truly committed to the mission of Habitat for Humanity in its building of affordable houses for low income families in this area of West Virginia. In doing so, he was a strong advocate for Habitat’s work in Jefferson County. Everyone had a great time and we raised over $6,700 for Habitat. 1st place-Ours, Lawyer, Lewis & Co., 2nd place-BAZINGA, and 3rd place-Homes and Land Magazine with cash prizes. The losing team “Yep it’s a gutter ball girls” received bowling pins as trophies. Also awarded a “Team Spirit award” to Briel’s Bowlerinas.
