MARC Train Resolution: Eastern Panhandle Board of REALTORS®, Inc.

Whereas, residents of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia have relied upon MARC commuter transit service connection to the Washington, DC metropolitan area for decades;

Whereas, regular train service between the Washington, DC region and West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle provides an important opportunity for the region’s real estate economy;

Whereas, the Washington, DC metropolitan area is the nation’s fifth largest economy and a key source of capital, jobs, and opportunity for Martinsburg, the Eastern Panhandle, and the State of West Virginia;

Whereas, transit connections support state and local economies;

Whereas, transit-oriented development can play a key role in revitalizing historic downtown communities and supporting the land values needed to attract capital investment;

Whereas, West Virginia businesses are connected by MARC to important customers and markets;

Whereas, West Virginia residents are connected by MARC to jobs that support their quality of life;

Whereas, the Eastern Panhandle is a high-growth region that contributes to West Virginia’s statewide economy and budget;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Eastern Panhandle Board of REALTORS®, Inc., encourages the State of West Virginia to recognize the importance of MARC transportation service to the regional and state transportation network and land use economy, and therefore to fund continued full-service operation of MARC service without diminution or delay as a state transportation priority.
